Before partnering with Attorney Brian Jackson in February, 2010, to start the Law Offices of Kimbrough & Jackson, Joy worked as a Criminal Defense Attorney at the Law Firm of Higgins, Himmelberg, and Piliponis. Prior to practicing law, Joy was a Police Officer who graduated at the top of her class. She also clerked for the Honorable Robert Rigsby in Washington, DC., and worked at the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office. As a law student Joy was the Managing Editor of her Law Review and authored the publication The Federal Housing Act: No More Absolute Owner Liability When Employees Discriminate. She was also inducted into the Inns of Court. Additionally, Joy was awarded the American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation (AIPLEF) scholarship in Washington, DC.
Since beginning her work as a Criminal Defense Attorney, Joy has had an astounding success rate with jury trials. She has tried everything from DUI to First Degree Murders. One of her most infamous trials was defending a young Tennessee State student charged in a double homicide at Bellacino’s Pizza. The jury found the young man not guilty on all charges. Recently, she was interviewed by the Oxygen Channel to appear on an episode of Snapped as a legal consultant. Joy has also appeared on the ID Channel on an episode of Sins and Secrets.
Joy has now added Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, and Immigration to her areas of practice.
Joy is a member of the Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations. She is admitted to practice law in both State and Federal Court.
Joy is the daughter of a retired Metro Nashville School Teacher and Principal. Joy has three adult children.
Joy is truly an attorney “For The People.”
